Paris's thirty seventh bridge
A bridge is much more than a bridge. It is the most functional form of architecture, the
most utilitarian. It is also a place to dream, to escape, to make and break relationships.
It is an emotional reference point in the city. Each bridge has its own story to tell, its
own identity, and perhaps this applies to bridges in Paris more than anywhere else in
the world given that they have the river Seine as a companion. Whether hurrying or
strolling across, a bridge leaves an imprint in the minds of those using it. It is a context
that forms the legends and images of a city. The bridge lies over the Seine, this metaphor
for the passing of time, and reveals the changing landscape of Paris.
